There are only days left for people who need on-street parking in Penrith to share views on a planned permit process.
A new parking protocol is set to be formally introduced to address specific parking issues in the area and make the way permits are obtained a fair and consistent process for all.
Westmorland and Furness Council is calling for people to have their say on the draft proposal by taking part in a consultation. Views will be used to shape the parking protocol that will be considered at Eden Locality Board in April 2024.
The deadline is Friday, March 8.
Councillor John Murray, chair of the Eden Locality Board, said: “In areas with lots of terrace housing like Penrith, efficient on-street parking is crucial for optimising limited space and making the area an enjoyable place to live, work and thrive.
“The proposed parking permit process aims to introduce new, transparent criteria for the way permits are distributed. Most residents will see no noticeable change to day-to-day arrangements and can still apply for up to two permits per household dependent on what access they may have to off-street parking provisions.
“We encourage residents and those that work in the area to take part and make a real difference to road users in your local community.”
Over 350 people who live and work in Penrith have so far shared views in the consultation. A series of successful public drop-in sessions welcomed over 80 residents and business owners who joined the Westmorland and Furness Traffic Management Team to discuss the new protocol.
