More dog fouling on Castletown Recreation Field was reported to the Herald this week, following last week’s story about the ongoing problem at the Penrith venue, which is home to Wetheriggs United Football Club as well as Castletown junior teams.
Last month a senior men’s football match was interrupted twice as dog mess was cleared from the field, prompting reminders from Westmorland and Furness Council that the field is designated as a dog exclusion area. Anyone caught walking their dog there is liable for a fixed penalty fine and could face prosecution at magistrates’ court.
A man, who did not wish to be named, was with three friends at the Rec on Tuesday morning, when he was verbally abused after telling a group of males with two dogs that they should not be walking them on the Rec.
“They effed and blinded at me, and I said I would take a photo, but when I got my phone out they said they would get it off me,” said the man.
They then walked off to meet people walking across the Rec with another dog.
“There needs to be more dog wardens or police or cameras up there as a deterrent,” said the man.
