Penrith town councillors are objecting to the building of five executive style homes on Beacon Edge.
Ros Richardson, deputy town clerk of Penrith Town Council, said an application on the same site had come before councillors at a previous meeting for a single dwelling which had been supported as it was felt that it was infill and mirrored the fact that along Beacon Edge there were single, large houses.
However, a plan had now come back for the same area as an outline application for five houses.
“The documentation (supplied with the application) is still incorrect,” said Ms Richardson.
“The land opposite is not allocated for housing, it has been given to Cumbria Wildlife Trust,” she said.
Town councillors felt this application represented an over development of the site and was unsuitable for that location as it was out of character.
“Although the town council believes that this area does not lie outside the town of Penrith and that it is suitable for infill, it believes that the application for five dwellings constitutes over-development of the site which would not be in keeping with the character of the area, as Beacon Edge becomes progressively less dense as you move along,” said a town council spokesman.
