A Penrith man has admitted a serious assault in the town which left his victim with multiple injuries.
Nigel Stuart Burton, 38, of Folly Lane, was arrested by police following an incident at an address in Castlegate in Penrith on the evening of December 11.
A Cumbria police spokesman said in the aftermath that the violence had left the male victim with cuts, bruising and a broken finger.
Burton was charged and appeared at Carlisle Crown Court this morning.
He pleaded not guilty to one allegation of burglary having entered a building as a trespasser intending to inflict grievous bodily harm on the man.
Burton further denied a charge alleging that he unlawfully and maliciously caused the man grievous bodily harm with intent to do so.
Burton did plead guilty to one offence of assaulting the man, causing him actual bodily harm.
Prosecutor Gerard Rogerson told the court that was deemed an acceptable resolution of the case, and formally offered no evidence on the burglary and GBH charges.
“It is a deeply unpleasant incident,” said the prosecutor of Burton’s assault.
The case was adjourned to seek an impact statement from the victim. Burton is due to be sentenced next Wednesday, January 17, and in the meantime he was remanded in custody by the judge, Recorder Julian Shaw.
