The Liberal Democrats have announced their candidate for Cumbria police and crime commissioner.
Elections are due to take place on May 6 for the role, currently occupied by Peter McCall.
The elected commissioner is responsible for policing and holds the chief constable and the force to account.
Mark Christie has been selected by the Liberal Democrats.
He is a lecturer in sport development at the University of Cumbria and lives near Kendal with his young family.
In his spare time he is a qualified personal trainer, leads group fitness classes and coaches archery.
Mark has led on a number of community development initiatives, including fundraising for a new sports pavilion and an outdoor gym, developing new sports clubs and delivering community sports events.
He said his top priorities included more visible community policing to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour and hate crime, working with local communities to tackle rural crime and educating young people about the dangers of committing crime from an early age.
Mark said: “People are crying out for change and desperately want to see more visible policing, particularly in our most rural areas that often feel forgotten about.
“I’m also committed to supporting victims of crime to help rebuild their lives and to work with employers to reintegrate ex-offenders into society through jobs, apprenticeships, voluntary work and education.”
