An inspection has taken place following the collapse of a wall which formed part of the beer garden at Morland’s Crown Inn pub.
Residents this week expressed fears that the nearby bridge may also have been affected by the subsidence, caused by heavy rainfall.
But a spokesman for Westmorland and Furness Council said on Thursday: “We have undertaken an inspection of Force (Morland) Bridge this afternoon and have also reviewed the information that we hold on this structure.
“The bridge was substantially strengthened in the late 1980s and we do not believe that the collapse of the adjacent retaining wall puts the bridge at risk.”
The pub itself is closed at present, but moves are being made to see if it can become the subject of a community buyout.
Its guide price, as listed by Mere Commercial, has been reduced from £325,000 to £195,000.
A group of between 10 and 15 people has now been formed to take that forward, a meeting of Morland Parish Council was told.
Regarding the collapsed wall, parish chairman Steve Wilson said it looked “quite vulnerable” and needed to be sorted. It was also likely that the Environment Agency would need to be involved.
