Appleby mourned the loss of a much loved lady, who did a great deal for the town, with the death of Liz Harrison.
Liz first came to Appleby in her early teens, meeting her future husband Peter and between them, having three children Neil, Marie and James.
They and their partners and her much-loved grandsons were always her number one priority, and she was proud of them all.
Liz always cared for people and her work involved the care of the elderly, who all adored her, especially for her kindness and cuddles.
When she retired, she gave her time freely to many charities.
The Women’s Section of the Royal British Legion was her biggest passion, where she progressed to carrying the standard for five years, then moving on to holding positions at branch level, then county and at central committee level, travelling to London for meetings.
She gained her gold award in 2019 and, in January 2020, became the national chairman.
Liz also kept the Appleby branch going, when it was struggling.
Alongside all of this, she helped during the floods of 2015, with Meals on Wheels, at the Age Concern shop and Christmas fair.
She also raised funds for the Poppy Appeal, Women’s Section and Cancer Research UK. She did this with a big heart and never quite managed to say no to anyone who needed her help.
Liz always had time for her family and friends and had fun along the way.
She touched the lives and hearts of many people, and will be sadly missed by all who were privileged to know her.
