Fay Dudson

Fay Dudson, from Penrith, has won the Student Innovation in Practice Award at the annual Student Nursing Times Awards.

The ceremony, which took place in London, honoured the outstanding achievements of the upcoming generation of nurses and their mentors, recognising those who consistently go above and beyond in their field.

The judges said: “Fay impressed the judging panel with her authenticity and the remarkable personal and professional growth she has shown throughout her nursing journey.

“Her innovative work with marginalised populations reflects a deep commitment to tackling health inequalities and improving access to care.

“Fay truly embodies the essence of a primary care nurse — dedicated, compassionate, and deeply connected to the needs of her local community. A shining example of nursing leadership in action.”

Fay said: “I was so surprised to hear I had been nominated for an award. Then when the shortlist was announced and I was on it, I thought how exciting, I get to go to an amazing, fancy event in London!

“I had a fantastic day and felt privileged to meet and be in the same room as so many inspirational people. It never crossed my mind that I could win, so when they called my name out at the ceremony, I was speechless, which was a first!

“I’m still shocked but also immensely proud, as are my family, friends, and colleagues. The support and well wishes I have received have been overwhelming and I couldn’t be more thankful.”

Fay works for Birbeck Medical Group and studied for her BA (hons) nursing degree apprenticeship with The Open University, graduating in April.

She was nominated for the award by her OU tutor, Laura Courty.
