Firefighters tackled a HGV blaze on the M6.
At around 3.35pm yesterday, Tuesday, April 30, crews from Penrith Fire Station and Shap were called to the incident on the motorway, southbound between junctions 40 and 39.
They had to control the spread of the fire to the verges as well as extinguishing the main blaze.
Penrith Fire Station said: “We would like to thank the public for their patience while the incident was resolved, and extend our thanks to the HGV and car drivers that stopped and prevented traffic from entering the smoke plume leaving all responders plenty of room to arrive on scene and set up.
“Please can we remind drivers to be aware that emergency vehicles may use the hard shoulder as a means of getting to the incident.”
