On Monday, Magnus Villadsen celebrated his year in office with a junior captain’s day at Penrith Golf Club.
The past 12 months have seen a rise in junior membership which is very encouraging for the club and, throughout the summer, junior coaching has taken place on Monday evenings.
The club’s junior team players also competed against youngsters from elsewhere in the county and this has provided the opportunity for them to gain experience at this level. All those representing the club are due credit for their performances.
Golf SIXES has also been introduced. This is an exciting and innovative format for juniors starting in golf. It provides an opportunity to play in a style that is fun, team-based and suitable for beginners. Teams of six play six holes in the highly inclusive Texas scramble format. Matches have been played at Brampton, Carlisle and Penrith.
Magnus held a number of competitions on his captain’s day. There was a nine-hole tournament for those golfers with a handicap and the winner on the day was Leah Butler.
There was also a nine-hole event for intermediate golfers and the winner was Lucas Worth.
The less experienced juniors were able to play a four-hole competition and the winner was Max Bryson.
All juniors thoroughly enjoyed their day and light refreshments were provided in the clubhouse after the event by Fairways Catering. Thanks were given to Rikki and the team.
Junior coaching will continue at the club on Mondays until mid-September, starting at 5-30pm. Anyone who would like to try golf is urged to go along.
Magnus said of his captain’s event: “I have enjoyed being the junior captain and it has been really good that there were junior golfers of all ages playing today.”
