Penrith Football Club got their season off to a stunning start as they beat Pickering Town 3-2 last night in the FA Cup extra preliminary round.
Goals from Max Brown, Ric Faustino and Luke Brown saw the Blues race into a 3-0 lead after only half an hour at the Atkinson Building Contractors Stadium against opponents from the rung above them in the national league ladder.
Pickering netted twice either side of the interval to set up a nervy final 40 minutes but the home side dug in and held on.
Penrith, who pocketed £1,125 prize money with the win, now host West Allotment Celtic — who defeated Whickham on penalties last night — in a preliminary round tie which will take place on Saturday, 12th September.
Reacting to the victory over Pickering, Blues boss Dave ‘Dabba’ Hewson said: “It’s a phenomenal result for the lads.”
