Penrith Mitsuru Karate member Jed Thompson travelled to Antalya in Turkey to compete in the K1 Premier League.
This was his first time at this level of competition, with a round-robin opening day format.
Jed was firstly up against an opponent from Iran, winning 3-0. Next was Italy, which he won 7-4, and finally France, with another triumph giving him first place overall and sending him through to the quarter-finals.
These took place later in the day, with his last eight clash against a Moroccan opponent who is ranked number two in the world. Jed gave a good performance but unfortunately went out 8-2, putting him into the bronze medal final the next day.
This was against a fighter from Japan ranked six in the world. The score was 2-2 moving into the dying seconds when Jed was caught with a body kick and lost out 4-2.
But he claimed a very respectable fifth place finish at the competition and now has a new world ranking of 26th.
