The Amateur Athletics Association Tug of War Championships was held for the first time at Tebay recreation ground on Sunday, with Upper Eden Tug-of-War Club thehosts. The community turned out in force, creating a vibrant atmosphere as they watched and cheered on this exciting event. The club also ran a popular barbecue, cake and refreshment tent, which completely sold out. Teams from across the UK and Scotland, including Lincoln, Bedford, Ansty, Bosley, Penistone, Bedfordshire, Sheen and Ayrshire travelled to compete in the prestigious event. The Upper Eden club showed exceptional strength and teamwork on their home ground, securing both gold and silver medals. A club spokesman said: “The club is grateful to the main generous sponsors whose support made this event possible — Tebay Services, Roxan Ltd, Aqua Pura, Eden Farm Supplies Ltd, Kirkaldy & Roe Ltd, Andrew Dyer (agricultural advisor) and BB dairies Ltd.” Upper Eden’s next challenge is the national championships, which are taking place tomorrow, Saturday June 21, near Tonbridge in Kent.
