Former Penrith Rugby Club player Louie Johnson will start at fly half when England under-20s kick off their Six Nations campaign against Scotland tomorrow.
Now with Newcastle Falcons, 18-year-old Louie is a former Penrith Queen Elizabeth Grammar School student who went on to captain Sedbergh School’s first XV.He is one of 11 players to be handed a debut by England under-20s head coach Alan Dickens for the game at Edinburgh Rugby’s DAM Health Stadium (8pm kick-off).
“I’m really excited to be picked to start against Scotland,” Louie said.
“It’s something I have been aiming for all season and working hard for, so it feels good to reach it.
“However, it’s now important I take the opportunity and give everything I’ve got. I’m looking forward to seeing friends and family at the game and hopefully do them proud.”
As the squad was announced on Wednesday, Dickens said: “We’ve had a really great start to our training week and the attitude and commitment from the lads has been outstanding. “Yesterday we had a joint session with Oxford University following our game against them in mid-January.
“It’s helpful to be able to incorporate that into our preparation for the Six Nations.
“Scotland will be a tough side to face but the boys have put in quality preparation and we’re looking forward to getting out on the pitch in Edinburgh.
“For many of the players this game will be their first Six Nations experience and that will be a very special moment; I want them to remember that on Friday night and savour the occasion.”
