Penrith Chojinkai Karate Club, which was first launched by Doug James in 1976, is reopening in the town after an eight-year break with the next generation of instructors taking it forward.
Carlisle-based Mark Heaton, 5th dan, and his son Lewis, 2nd dan, are reopening the club with classes for Little Dragons aged four years and above, at Hunter Hall School every Thursday, starting on May 5 with free “come and try” classes.
Doug, club founder and chief instructor, said: “I am delighted that Mark and Lewis are bringing Chojinkai karate back to Penrith.
“Mark runs his own successful clubs in Carlisle, Brampton and Wigton, and has been a personal student of mine for 23 years since he started aged 14.
His son Lewis, now 18, started at four years old and is regarded as Chojinkai karate’s ‘original little dragon’. He is a massive inspiration and role model to all our younger students and will be teaching at all of the classes.”
Numbers will be limited to small classes.
