Members of Patterdale Cricket Club described their pride at being featured in a new BBC series starring ex-England all-rounder Freddie Flintoff.
In Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams, the popular Ashes winner turned television personality is said to take on his toughest challenge yet by creating a cricket team from scratch. His task is to give talented teens and novices from underprivileged areas of his native Lancashire a chance to shine.
Some filming for the show took place at Patterdale’s spectacular King George V playing field with help from past and present players of the Eden Valley League club.
Exact details were scarce when filming took place, but on the Patterdale club Facebook page this week, a spokesman said: “We have been keeping this under our hats but now the final edits have been done we are proud to say we have been part of this documentary helping Freddie Flintoff and the BBC.
“This was a big day for the club and couldn’t have gone any better; and in the process helping some lads out with the experience of playing against a very senior team.
“All our players had played for Patterdale CC in their lives and most of them came out of retirement for this game, sharing knowledge and skills. Thanks again to everyone that helped on the day.”
Episode one of the six-part series will be shown on BBC One tonight, Tuesday, at 8pm and will be available on the iPlayer.
