Sporty Eden sisters Tabitha and Henrietta Paul were in laser run action at the British schools championships in Wales.
Tabitha, 14, and 11-year-old Henrietta qualified earlier this year for an event which was held at Deeside Stadium in Connah’s Key, and represented Kirkby Stephen Grammar School.
Laser run is part of British modern pentathlon with a national school competition having been introduced to make it more accessible.
At this event, young athletes shoot five green lights on a target using a laser gun before embarking on a set of 400m runs.
Tabitha competed as a current year 10 student and had to complete three sets of 400m. Henrietta, as a year seven pupil, completed two sets.
Competing against a field of current GB athletes, Henrietta just missed out on a medal, finishing in fourth place, while Tabitha left it late and put in a 56-second final 400m run to pass her competitors and win the gold medal.
Henrietta also, later in the day, took to the track again to compete in the British open finals. This time she had to compete three sets of 300m runs and three laser shoots.
She finished ninth in the British rankings, which is one place higher than she achieved at a competition in April, held at Leweston School, Dorset.
Kirkby Stephen Grammar School is hoping to get more pupils involved next year, and both Paul sisters will be competing for a GB vest in the spring at the European and world qualifiers.
