Fortified by mulled wine, mince pies and chocolates, 10 of the ladies at Appleby Golf Club took part in the annual Christmas cracker competition.
Blue skies were welcome but a chilly wind made the playing conditions testing. The course was in fabulous condition.
Golf began with the new captain, Liz Appleby’s, drive-in. The objective is to hit a long and straight drive up the first hole. Liz usually finds the fairway, but on this occasion decided that some rough grass would be a better resting place for her ball.
The mulled wine seemed to be taking some of the blame for this, and Liz remarked that “drinking and driving never makes a good combination!”
The competition format was an 18-hole Stableford with the added excitement of a treasure hunt around the course. The winner of a closely fought contest was Selina
Chui. A well earned warm drink and more mince pies rounded off a very enjoyable day.
Appleby ladies are looking forwards to a full calendar of events over the coming season.
Anyone wishing to take up the game should get in touch with the club. Support and equipment are available for anyone who would like to try golf.
