Brodie Glendinning missed out on a debut for Cumbria’s senior team at the weekend after the game in Hertfordshire was abandoned through COVID-19.
But the 19-year-old says he would be delighted to have another opportunity in the future if the chance arose.
Back home in Penrith, the medium fast bowler is pondering his options for next summer as his five-year stint at Durham appears to be coming to an end.
He says: “It’s very unlikely that I will be signing another contract at Durham so I will be hoping to trial with another county and hoping to get fixed up there.
“But if nothing did come up I would be delighted to have another chance to play for Cumbria. It was just one of those things at the weekend, frustrating but COVID is COVID and it had to be called off.”
It was a call from his former Penrith coach at Under-11s Paul Hindmarch which reintroduced him to the Cumbria set-up last week.
“Hindy coached me then and I played through the Cumbria age groups from 11 to15 when I joined the Durham Academy. It was nice to get a call from him to play with the seniors,” he says.
As part of the Durham set-up Brodie has been playing club cricket with Chester-le-Street, one of the most respected clubs in the North East.
He is their professional and looking forward to helping them to their first piece of silverware this season when they contest a Cup final on Sunday.
“We are third in the League at present but I don’t think we can win it with the games that are left. But we do have a Cup final on Sunday, with an excellent chance so that would be great to lift the trophy.
“It’s my third year playing with Chester-le-Street. There were two of us from Durham last year but I’m the only one this season. I really enjoy it, not just the playing but getting involved in other activities around the club from serving behind the bar to doing a little bit of coaching,” he says.
He will want to win that Cup on Sunday just to level up with brother Bruce who helped Penrith to a Trophy victory at the weekend.
Brodie’s highlight from his time at Durham was in 2019 playing for the Second X1 at Arundel in a T20 semi-final when he removed the top five in the Hampshire batting line-up. He finished his four overs with 5-13, clean bowling three of his victims.
For the time being, though, he is recharging his batteries and looking for new horizons in 2022 which might include another opportunity for his senior Cumbria debut.
