Ten-year-old goalkeeper Casper Ostrowski has been snapped up by League 2 side Morecambe FC and will play for their academy.
The youngster, who lives in Penrith with mum and dad Peter and Aggie, is receiving top level coaching across the North of England after initially being introduced to the game through his dad — a former professional goalkeeper in his native Poland.
“I was training him over lockdown, but he then stopped playing,” said Peter. “However, in 2022 he found a local team, Calthwaite Juniors, and started at Danny Grainger’s academy in Penrith, and has never looked back.”
As well as playing for Calthwaite and at the Cumbria Football Academy, run by former Carlisle United captain Grainger, who now manages Morecambe FC in League 2, Casper has been attending a Polish football academy held in Leeds once a week, which is owned by a Manchester City scout.
Casper — a pupil at St Catherine’s School in Penrith — also trains with Feet 4 Football in Carlisle every week.
And now that he has signed for the Shrimps, he will have to travel to Morecambe three times a week, including for matches on Sundays, with Peter set to do all the driving!
Casper supports Manchester United, but his goalkeeping hero is Argentina and Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez — and he was lucky enough to be given his shirt after the Manchester Utd v Aston Villa game this season.
