Some extreme gardening was carried out around the clock face of Kirkby Stephen Parish Church by volunteers.
A team of volunteers from the town’s mountain rescue team swung into action by abseiling off the top of the church tower.
About once every 10 years, the team’s services are required, to prune away any small bushes or other vegetation which grows on ledges around the structure.
“They need to be removed to protect the fabric of the building,” said a spokesman.
David Stewart, of Kirkby Stephen mountain rescue team, said: “It went very smoothly.
“The rigging was done in the morning and then we broke off as there was a wedding in the church.
“Starting again in the afternoon it took a couple of hours to ‘garden’ two faces, with two ropes down each face and eight members of the team having a go at the task.
“The most stubborn bush was on the west side above the clock.”
The team was also present on the church green to answer questions and collect donations.
