People are warned not to buy a bargain TV from a ‘man in a van’ in motorway services car parks.
Police have issued the warning after people have fallen victim to the fraud – they think they are buying an ex-display TV or ‘overstock’ from a retailer.
However, the units are worthless – and police said at least three TVs seized have been found to be wet inside, which would pose a serious hazard if plugged in.
Cumbria police said: “We are currently seeing multiple reports of this occurring at service area’s inside the county and more recently at supermarket car parks in north and West Cumbria.
“Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team are taking enforcement action and investigating alongside partners at Westmorland and Furness Council and the site operators.”
