Revellers helped raise just over £6,000 at the 13th annual Greystoke beer festival.
Robin Illingworth, who helped organise the thriving community event, said the festival went really well and it was greatly helped by the fact that it didn’t rain.
All the money raised goes to the Greystoke and District Sports Association which provides significant help with the overall annual running costs of the pool, football pitch and playground, which equated to £69,000 in 2023.
On the Friday night, live musical entertainment was provided by The Flookes, of Greystoke, whose set included a song dedicated to the swimming pool. They were followed by Sparky and the Wailer, who also went down well, with one of their highlights being a fantastic version of Mustang Sally.
“There was a great party atmosphere. It was a warm night and it was very much an outdoor alfresco-style event,” said Robin.
Carlisle-based Sneaky Finch were the headline attraction on Saturday night, with support being provided by John Anderson, who is a regular visitor to Greystoke.
“There were lots of people up dancing the night away,” said Robin.
As well as Cumbrian beers, pilsners, wine and prosecco, there was also great value food both nights, provided by Sarah Callan, who has a restaurant called Sarah’s Yard, based in Urmston, Manchester.
Robin thanked all 12 sponsors and everybody who helped support the event in any way. “It relies hugely upon vast numbers of volunteers, from running the bar and the door to setting up and cleaning away at the end. It’s a big community thing,” he said.
He confirmed that there would definitely be another beer festival fundraiser next year, saying: “It’s essential for the running of the swimming pool and keeping the pool open.”
