Four more community pharmacies will be offering bookable appointments for the coronavirus vaccine across north Cumbria.

Two new community locations will be offering bookable appointments for the coronavirus vaccine in Eden.

As the vaccine programme is set to open to all over 18s it means there are 10 bookable locations for the COVID-19 vaccine from Seascale to Kirkby Stephen.

The latest NHS England figures show that about 400,000 vaccinations have been delivered in north Cumbria. This means more than 80 per cent of the population have had their first jab and more than 60 per cent have had their second.

The bookable options are now:

  • Carlisle – Boots
  • Carlisle – Pharmacy at St Paul’s Church, Lonsdale Street (near the bus station)
  • Carlisle – Harraby Community Centre
  • Cockermouth – Allison’s at The Globe Hotel
  • Kirkby Stephen – Upper Eden Baptist Church – Green Tree Pharmacy, Victoria Square
  • Penrith Auction Mart Vaccination Centre
  • Penrith – Conference Centre at the Rugby Club
  • Seascale Pharmacy
  • Workington – Pharmacy2U at Dunmail Park
  • Whitehaven – Seacliffe Pharmacy in Kells

Ed Tallis, director of primary care for NHS North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said: “We are making excellent progress thanks to a huge team effort across primary care, community pharmacy and many more colleagues and volunteers.

“We know our best defence to avoid serious illness is to have the vaccine and we would urge people to get their vaccine as soon as they are able. It is also very important to have the second jab to ensure maximum protection.”

There are three ways to get your COVID-19 vaccine:

  1. Your GP may invite you for the vaccine.
  2. You can book through the National Booking Service when your age group becomes eligible www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/bookcoronavirus-vaccination/
  3. You may be called in to a hub to ensure all vaccine is used, and drop-ins may be offered – keep an eye out for any sessions near you.

Centres only show on the National Booking Service when there are slots available. If you can’t see the centre you are looking for, it is advisable to try again later. Slots are regularly added into the system. (You may be offered slots further afield – and you can choose to travel or wait for more local slots to become available).

After your vaccine it takes two-three weeks for your protection to develop. You also need to keep following the hands, face and space guidance after you’ve had your vaccination. This is to make sure that while you have protection, you don’t pass COVID-19 on to other people.

The government will let us know when we can start to relax how we follow the rules. For now we must do all we can to look after each other and help reduce the spread of COVID, North Cumbria CCG said.
