Two men — including one living at Southwaite — have been spared immediate prison after being involved in violence which flared at a lap dancing bar.
Aaron Sewell (31) and 22-year-old Jacob Evans were prosecuted and brought to court after an incident at Rouge, on Englishgate Plaza, close to Carlisle city centre, during the early hours of Sunday, 30th July, this year.
In the aftermath of the incident, Sewell and Evans were charged with affray.
When the men appeared at Carlisle Crown Court on Tuesday, both pleaded not guilty to the charge of affray but admitted a lesser public order offence which was accepted by the prosecution.
When the men first appeared at the city’s magistrates’ court, prosecutor George Shelley said the incident had started inside Rouge and had been captured on CCTV footage.
“There was violence in the nightclub which spilled out — following ejection — into the car park area,” said Mr Shelley.
The incident occurred “over a sustained period of time” and was captured on CCTV footage.
A police constable had suffered cuts and grazes, the court heard, with Sewell also admitting a charge of assaulting an emergency worker in relation to this.
Evans, then of Southwaite and now of Bedford Street, Hull, and Sewell, of South Street, Carlisle, were sentenced by Judge Richard Archer after he considered probation service pre-sentence reports in relation to both men.
They each had three-month prison sentences suspended for 12 months.
Evans must comply with a three-month electronically monitored night time curfew.
Sewell must complete a rehabilitation requirement, the judge decided.
