Train passengers have been left stranded this morning after Northern cancelled all its trains between Carlisle and Skipton, due to flooding in several locations.
The route, which takes in parts of the Eden Valley, through Appleby and Kirkby Stephen, has been closed in both directions and replacement buses are not operating, due to poor road conditions.
A spokesman for Northern advised people not to travel and said: “Heavy rain overnight has caused flooding at Melling Tunnel, between Settle & Blea Moor and between Hellifield and Carnforth.
“As a result, both the Skipton and Carlisle and Skipton and Lancaster lines are closed in both directions.”
