A temporary free car park will open in Appleby this week.
The car park, on the site of the former Edenside Care Home, will be opened by the Environment Agency on Friday, December 20.
It has been created to ease potential disruption for residents and visitors while construction work associated with the town’s new flood defence scheme at the existing Broad Close car park continues.
The construction site closes for the Christmas holiday on Friday.
From mid-February, service diversions will start in Chapel Street which will require traffic management.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “We are committed to reducing the potential impact of our flood risk management scheme construction on the Appleby community.
“The temporary car park demonstrates our commitment to supporting residents and visitors during this crucial project to better protect 64 properties in the town from flooding and provide £21 million in economic benefits to Appleby.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we work towards enhancing Appleby’s flood resilience.”
