The local community was in shock this week following the sudden death of Tebay poultry producer David Knipe as a result of a quad bike accident.
David, who was aged 65, was known for his cheerful nature and friendly banter. He died following a quad bike accident at his farm at High Carlingill, Tebay, where he and his family had been raising quality ducks, geese, chickens and other animals for around 15 years.
His business was called Heartwood Poultry — a name chosen because of the famous heart-shaped wood on the hillside above High Carlingill. He was particularly known through his frequent presence at farmers’ markets in the area — including the one at Kendal of which he was a founder member. He was originally from the Levens area.
A full tribute to David will be published in next week’s Herald.
