The shoe shop that’s made for walking … across the road and around the corner to its new premises.
Penrith’s Strolling4Shoes has opened its new store in Devonshire Street in the former The Works building, just a stone’s throw from its previous premises at Corn Market.
Owner Fraser Marshall said the new shop is twice the size of the last one, in a more central location, and is all on one level, making it more accessible for customers.
“I’m excited that we’ve got a nice building in Penrith done out properly and not left to rot, so I’m excited in general for the town for that.
“The new shop has now got our new updated colour scheme and logo which is nice. The old shop has been left with the old look, so I’m excited to have that and have everything up to date with the other two shops.
“Generally I’m excited to share people’s feedback if they like it and hopefully they do,” said Fraser.
Another member of staff has been taken on at the new store, which opened its first Penrith shop in Devonshire Arcade in 2006.
The family-run business, which Fraser took over from his parents two years ago, has two other shops in Cockermouth and Richmond, North Yorkshire.
Last year they were awarded footwear independent retailer of the year at the Drapers Footwear Awards and Fraser credits the accolade to the hard work of the 19 staff members across the stores.
The official opening yesterday welcomed customers from 4pm to see the new shop and the autumn and winter range.
The Corn Market premises will stay open over the next few weeks as a clearance store.
“We will definitely have space to stock more brands and more styles and hopefully cater for more people’s needs and generally have a bit more space to move,” Fraser added.
