Honister Slate Mine is continuing to attract the stars as it has hosted several shoots for national television series – and there are promises of more projects on the horizon.

This week, author and presenter Simon Reeve visited the mine with Alan Hinkes, the only Brit to have climbed all 14 of the world’s mountains higher than 8,000m. Simon went down the mine to split a seven-tonne chunk of slate with a sledge hammer.

He follows Strictly Come Dancing duo Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood who filmed at Honister for their new ITV show, Craig and Bruno’s Great British Road Trip.

Set to be aired on August 11, the pair undertook a day of activities led by 24-year-old activity manager Trent Wilkinson-Weir.

Trent said only one of the duo actually managed to cross the attraction’s 1,000ft high infinity bridge challenge but viewers will have to wait until the programme is aired to find out which.

“They were bang on sound guys actually but were absolutely petrified,” said Trent.

We just treat everyone the same up here and they were really down to earth.

“We’re getting lots of publicity and it’s a great location with great activities. It should be good fun to see myself on TV.

“We’ve got four or five TV shows featuring Honister coming out in the next six months.”

He added that although he couldn’t talk about the project, “something really big” featuring Honister was set to hit screens internationally.
