Tony Pennell, a retired engineer and long-time snowplough operator, has been recognised for his outstanding dedication to his community with an Inspiring Eden Award.
Presented by former Eden District Council chairman Douglas Banks, the award is reserved for those exceptional individuals and organisations making a noteworthy, positive impact in their local communities.
Tony has been ploughing snow on the moors for over 50 years and is an integral member of the Nenthead Snowplough team.
Tony and his crew have two snowploughs, known affectionately as Bertha and Margrit, and the organisation run as a community interest company for the benefit of isolated residents who are frequently cut off by blizzards and snow drifts, which can last several weeks.
An award ceremony was held in Nenthead and attended by the rest of the snowplough crew and directors, who celebrated Tony’s well-deserved recognition.
“We are thrilled to see Tony’s tireless efforts and dedication to his community recognised with the Inspiring Eden Award,” said a spokesman for Nenthead Snowplough. “Tony has been an integral part of our team for many years, and we are proud to have him as a colleague and a friend.”
