A shoplifter who stole from the same Penrith supermarket six times in less than a month has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Joleen Allen, 38, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to a total of seven offences.
All occurred at Penrith’s Sainsbury’s store, at Common Garden Square last year.
On each occasion, magistrates were told, she had stolen groceries with a total value of more than £2,000.
Allen’s crimes were committed on July 31, August 10, 18, 25, 28 and 29 and finally on October 17.
She admitted seven charges of theft.
Allen, of Somerwood Close, Long Marton, near Appleby, had a 17-week prison sentence suspended for a year.
She must also work with the probation service, under the terms of a rehabilitation activity requirement aimed at keeping her out of trouble, for up to 10 days.
Magistrates took the view that they could suspend the jail term as Allen had previously been out of trouble since 2019, and laboured under significant health issues from 2020 onwards.
