A sheep stuck on a ledge above a disused mine needed help from Patterdale mountain rescue team volunteers.
The team was out training yesterday when a local farmer got in touch about the sheep’s plight.
It had become stuck on a ledge above one of the old Greenside Mine spoil heaps at Glenridding.
A rope system was set up and a team member was lowered to encourage the sheep back to safety and shortly afterwards it ran off in search of its flock.
The operation involved six team members and lasted for about an hour.
A team spokesman said: “As well as being an excellent training opportunity the team are always keen to support the local farmers.”
