Police closed a road near Penrith in the early hours following a traffic collision.
Cumbria Constabulary reported at around 3am that the B5305 between Penrith and Wigton was closed as emergency services were at the scene.
It asked drivers to avoid the area.
No further updates have been given and it is not known if the road has reopened.
