A top price of £12,000 was paid for a heifer from the Marston family, of Easegill Head, Wharton, Kirkby Stephen, as trade rose to unprecedented levels at the March special sale of Continental cross store cattle at Borderway mart, Carlisle.
The high quality Limousin heifer won first prize in her show class and was bought for the new centre record price by Messrs Alford, Cullompton, Devon, who are well known for their success in the show ring at events across the country. The Marston family sold three cattle at Carlisle to average £5,666.67.
The March special saw Mart firm Harrison and Hetherington present 726 head on Friday and Saturday and these sold to average £1,702.30 — a level never seen before.
The second highest price of £10,000 was paid for a Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry, and bought by Blair Dufton, Aberdeen.
