Ram raiders tried to smash their way into an Alston store’s cash machine over the weekend.
The town’s Co-op was targeted overnight on Saturday and had to close on Sunday, but is back open today, Monday, March 25, and the cashpoint is working.
Eden Police said they are investigating the attempt theft of the ATM.
They said: “Offenders haven’t been successful, but have caused substantial damage to the shop, causing it to be closed and having a detrimental impact on the community.”
Any witnesses to the incident or anyone with CCTV is asked to contact police on 101.
