Pupils had to be evacuated from an Eden school after a pupil brought in a suspicious object.
Appleby Grammar School was forced to evacuate the premises following police advice this morning.
A letter to parents from headteacher Elaine Sargent said: “Students behaved impeccably and after a short period, police confirmed that there were no concerns and in fact the in fact the object was decorative.”
Cumbria police said: “Police were called at 11.35am today, March 19, to the report of a suspected ordnance being brought into Appleby Grammar School in Appleby.
“Officers attended the scene and, as a precaution, all children were immediately relocated to a separate part of the premises.
“Advice was sought from the explosive ordnance disposal team and it was determined that the item was a replica and not a viable device.
“There is no risk to the pupils or the public.”
