Six new apartments could be created from offices at a significant historic building in the heart of Penrith.
The plan is to change the use of the upper three storeys of Rowan House, at St Andrew’s Place, from offices to residential.
The four-storey building fronts on to Market Square and was once home to the Advertiser office.
It has been on the market with offers invited of over £200,000. Two business units on the lower ground floor — including the Figaro Barber Shop — are not part of the planned residential development.
Documents lodged with planners at Eden District Council have requested permission to create two flats/maisonettes consisting of a one-bedroom unit and a two-bedroom unit.
There would also be four bedsits/studios consisting of two one-bedroom units and a pair of two-bedroom units. The applicant is HC Construction Group, of 41 King Street, represented by Manning Elliott Partnership.
In a submission to planners, the agent said: “This application is made to convert the office accommodation to the upper three storeys to residential apartment accommodation.”
It would not involve any changes to the exterior of the building or its scale, agents said.
