Penrith Toffee Shop has had a starring role on breakfast TV this week, thanks to celebrity chef James Martin.
The presenter of Saturday Morning appeared on ITV show Lorraine this week and talked about some of the recipes featured in the new series of the show, including his decadent chocolate fudge cake, topped by fudge made in Penrith.
He said: “Guy called Neil runs the company. Neil’s amazing. It’s all made by hand.”
Lorraine ate most of the fudge and said it was one of the best things she had ever eaten.
Penrith Toffee Shop opened for business in 1910.
Neil Boustead took over in 2003 and still follows the same secret recipe that was discovered by the shop’s founder Mrs Furnass over 100 years ago.
The Toffee Shop’s website says: “He refuses to give any clues as to how he achieves the perfect density and flavour and how he maintains these intense levels of security.”
James Martin’s Saturday Morning is available to watch on catch-up players.
