Penrith’s Market Square is closed to traffic heading onto King Street.
Engineers are carrying out emergency gas repairs and the road is closed by the Musgrave Monument.
A diversion is in place and pedestrians can still access King Street. Northern Gas Networks, which is carrying out the work, says delays are unlikely.
