A Penrith man has been presented with an award for being among the best teachers in the country.
Mark Bailey, deputy headteacher of Netherhall School in Maryport, attended a ceremony in London and was presented with the Silver Award for Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School.
Mr Bailey, who lives in Penrith, took in some of the sights while in the capital and his local MP Neil Hudson arranged a tour of the Houses of Parliament.
Mr Bailey said: “It was a fantastic day and I was so proud to be presented with the award – which isn’t just for me, it’s for the whole school.”
Mr Bailey now goes forward to the Pearson National Teaching Award Final on Sunday November 28 for the prestigious Gold Award and title of Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School, where he is one of only 13 finalists in the category.
