Gas mains work in Penrith is now complete – and work to restore the road surface as soon as possible is under way.
The Northern Gas Networks project to replace ageing gas infrastructure in the town centre has seen weeks of road closures and traffic diversions, with retailers saying it has hit their businesses hard.
In an email to members this morning, a spokesman for the town centre Business Improvement District said: “The old metallic main has been decommissioned and the new main has been commissioned.
“Reinstatement of the road surface is now being carried out as a priority to allow the road to be safe to open as soon as possible.”
