The Leo Group, which owns and operates the Omega Proteins site on the outskirts of Penrith, has issued a statement after the arrest this week of an employee.
On Monday, Immigration Enforcement, part of the Home Office, assisted by Cumbria police, made two arrests in the town as it investigated complaints of alleged illegal working.
A Romanian woman in her 20s was arrested at the Omega Proteins facility on suspicion of working in breach of visa conditions and would be detained and removed from the UK, a Home Office spokesman told the Herald.
A spokesman for the Leo Group, which owns and operates the Omega Proteins site, said: “We co-operated fully with the immigration authorities that day and will continue to do so. However, we cannot comment whilst this is still a suspicion, and the investigation is still ongoing.”
A Romanian man was arrested at the Shiny Hand Car Wash, on the Gilwilly Industrial Estate, Cowper Road. He was given 28 days to “regularise” his stay in the UK and then released, the Home Office confirmed.
