Liberal Democrat Roger Burgin has been elected to serve the Penrith West ward on Eden District Council after voters went to the polls yesterday.
Mr Burgin, a retired chartered accountant who lives at Plumpton, polled 173 votes.
The turnout was 17.16 per cent.
It has been 10 years since Mr Burgin last held office as an Eden councillor when he represented Penrith North from 2007 to 2011, during which time he chaired the council’s accounts and governance committee.
Runner-up in the contest was Dale Normington (Conservative) with 87 votes (22 per cent); followed by Jeff Thomson (Independent) 51 (13 per cent); Dave Knaggs (Labour) 40 (10 per cent); Jonathan Davies (Putting Cumbria First) 28 (7 per cent); and Richard O’Brien (Green), 19 (5 per cent).
