Over 20 businesses in Penrith and Carlisle have donated vouchers towards a Christmas charity raffle to help buy an electric wheelchair for a little boy with a rare genetic condition which makes muscles weaker and causes problems with movement.
Freddie Tanner, who is the son of Antoni and Stephanie, is living with spinal muscular atrophy.
Kate Fitzpatrick, of Cleanspec Cumbria on Penrith’s Gilwilly industrial estate, said: “I have put together a Christmas raffle to raise funds to help the family buy a electric wheelchair for their young son.
“I have been fundraising all year for them and thought a raffle would be a nice way to finish the year.”
Prizes on offer include a family day pass at Lowther Castle, a Jim Walton MOT and a portrait shoot by Amanda Waite Photography, worth £80, among many others.
Kate, who is originally from Gateshead, where the family live, attended school with Stephanie in Blaydon, and has been in Penrith for about 15 years.
Over the last year, she said nearly £5,500 had been raised for Freddie with various fundraising events. As well as the electric wheelchair, other adaptations are needed for the house, including ramps and push doors, and a further £3,000 is still required.
The draw will take place live on Facebook on the 22nd December and people can enter via Paypal or by popping into Cleanspec Cumbria.
