The family of Penrith teenager Ben Ellis have thanked people for heartfelt messages and continued support as he remains in hospital after a serious accident.
Ben, a 17-year-old Queen Elizabeth Grammar School year 12 student, was airlifted to hospital and underwent surgery after the collision on Wednesday, 14th June, just after 12-30pm.
This involved pedestrian Ben and an HGV on the A66 eastbound carriageway between M6 Junction 40 and the Kemplay Bank roundabout.
He was placed in an induced coma at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) where his condition on Thursday was said by police to remain “critical but stable”.
Ben’s dad, Paul, wrote on Facebook at the start of this week: “Amanda (mum), James (brother) and I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone for their messages and continued support for Ben during this difficult time.
“Ben remains in the intensive care unit at the RVI where he is receiving treatment from the outstanding staff in the hospital.
“The support has been overwhelming, including family, friends, schools across Cumbria (especially QEGS) and the sporting community as a whole; not least of all Penrith Cricket Club, Penrith AFC and the wider football and cricket communities countrywide.
“The support for Ben has been outstanding and much loved. Can Amanda and I also please thank those that have also supported his brother James whilst we have been at the RVI.”
