A project to open up and deliver a new training centre at Appleby Heritage Centre is underway.
Newton Rigg Limited, trading as NR Training, has been given a £75,000 grant as part of an Eden Council economic growth initiative.
Mary Robinson, the district council’s economy and enterprise portfolio holder, confirmed that the grant had been awarded as part of its Inspiring Eden delivery programme at a meeting of the district’s council cabinet held at Appleby Cricket Club last night.
The project will re-establish a community learning and skills centre in the modern building, capable of delivering a range of practical skills development courses aligned to national occupational standards, according to information in a report to councillors.
The report added: “These will prepare for entry into the engineering, land-based engineering or manufacturing sectors and also support recreational learning. Further developments will support the offering of land-based apprenticeships.”
