Around 10 new retail jobs are on the way to Penrith.
The Original Factory Shop (TOFS), offering clothing, homeware and beauty, is preparing to move into the former M&Co premises at the entrance to the New Squares development. It has been advertising for a store manager on a salary of between £24,500 and £27,000, along with “sales colleagues” on the national minimum wage.
Phil Briggs, managing director for The Original Factory Shop said: “Our investment in new store openings is about making sure we have the right stores in the right place. These openings will help provide more job opportunities at a time when they are most needed.”
The company sells stock from the likes of Adidas, Nike, Clinique, Olay, Ralph Lauren, Converse, Hugo Boss and Emporio Armani, with anything up to 70 per cent off the recommended retail price.
A spokesman for Westmorland & Furness Council said that New Squares has a total of 24 commercial units available, which range in size from 275sq ft to 6,000sq ft. It has 12 tenants occupying a total of 14 units, leaving 10 units vacant across the site.
The spokesman said: “There are no ongoing costs to the council and New Squares will generate £907,000 of income for the authority in 2023-24.”
