A cookery booklet packed full of dramatic flair is set to raise funds for charity.
Michael Shipley, aged 83, of the White House, Great Asby, has written the booklet, called Leaves From My Cumbrian Kitchen, and hopes it will raise a substantial sum for Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland.
Over nearly 50 years, while Mr Shipley has been living at his country farmhouse in the village, he has been entertaining family and friends by throwing dinner parties, including for numerous music and theatre groups with which he has been involved.
“I am passionately involved in the Little Theatre movement and musical activities,” said Mr Shipley, who is a former chairman of the Little Theatre Guild and was on its committee for many years.
And his guests, having enjoyed the food he had prepared, would often ask him for the recipe. Now, for the first time, Mr Shipley has collated a number of these recipes together.
After breaking his hip in May, he said the cookery booklet gave him something to do and he has very much enjoyed putting it all together.
One of the largest sections is for soup recipes, followed by party recipes, including starters, mains and puddings.
The 40-page booklet, which includes recipes and photographs, is available from Jackie Lambert on 017683 51723 or Mr Shipley on 017683 52045.
