Leaders of the new authority set to take over in Eden, South Lakeland and Barrow will be asked to give approval of its proposed logo and branding.
The leadership of Westmorland & Furness Council is set to meet at County Hall in Kendal on Monday to discuss a number of important matters related to their work to ensure the new authority is “safe and legal” on day one.
Westmorland & Furness Council will take over from the existing district councils, and the county council, on April 1.
Councillors of the new authority are currently meeting as a Shadow Authority, making key decisions to set up the new council while the existing county and district councils complete their work.
The Shadow Authority has carried out a consultation on its logo and branding ahead of its launch next year, narrowing the options down to a single proposed design.
Positive feedback from the public on the preferred design includes: “Really like the absolute simplicity and clarity of the design. Looks clean and modern, yet also has a flow to it.
Another respondent said: “Classy and subtle, easy to recognise.”
Multiple respondents welcomed the logo’s reference to both the fells and the sea, illustrating the full geography of the Westmorland & Furness patch.
Work on the branding was carried out by the LGR Communications Advisory Group.
The leadership of the new authority will be asked to give their stamp of approval next week before the group develops new visual identity guidelines from September to October, ready for roll out from January 2023 onwards.
A report set to be discussed by councillors at the meeting notes that “A strong brand builds recognition of the services the council delivers, as well as building awareness, trust and improving reputation. For a council, a strong brand helps residents understand the range of services available and for staff it creates a strong sense of belonging to ‘one’ reorganisation.
“By clearly branding all services correctly, we will make it easier for our customers to understand what is available, how to access services and where to go for information.”
